Devotions

Looking back I’ve realized that a lot of times our relationship with God becomes a religion, just another thing added to our busy schedules. And something that was so beautiful and meaningful becomes empty and useless. We start focusing on all the wrong things and sooner or later we find out that our Spirit is quenched. It becomes hard to pray. Hard to read His Word. And being so unsatisfied we satisfy ourselves with this world and in the end we have bloody hands and a thirsty heart. But maybe it doesn’t have to be this way. Maybe for once we could learn from our mistakes. I don’t ever want to live an empty life doing the things I do because someone taught me that way. I want to question things. I want to go deeper than ever before. I want more and more. I can’t be satisfied with what I have and know of Him. I need more and my souls aches for it. Who is God that created this world and created me? Have you seen His work of art? And you tell me you’re satisfied with a 5 minute prayer that is just repetition? No. I know I’m not. The search has only begun. And I know that in the end I will be with Him. Because if He loves me that much then I have no other choice that I would make than to seek Him above all things.

We are not here on this earth just so that we can experience this thing called life. We are here for a reason. We are here because God wanted us to be here. We are here because we still have a job to do. It is our job as Christians to tell as many people as we can about the love of God and about the God who saves. We were given the gift of salvation now it’s time that we share that with everyone else. The life we live should make people question their disbelief in God. Through the life we live, people should see Christ. If you were truly excited about your salvation, you wouldn’t be able to keep it only to yourself. You would want everyone to know, so start. Make it a personal goal that at least once a day you tell someone about the love of Christ. See the difference it makes in your life.

You are loved. DOn’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise. Christ died for you just as much as for the next person. He knew you before you were born and loved you before anyone else did and He continues to love you. The love Christ has for you is the definition of love. You may crave this love from other people but Christ is the only one who can satisfy this craving.

What sets your soul on fire? What makes your heart beat like a drum? What gets you so excited that you can’t sleep at night? What puts the biggest smile on your face? The first thing that came to mind, that is something you should never take for granted. It’s rare to see people smiling like a goof for no visible reason, but if you’re one of these people, cherish that. God gave you something that can brighten up your day at any given moment, don’t let it get away.

Time. The problem with today’s society is we think we have a lot of it. We always put everything off for later…we’ll clean in a few hours, do our homework tomorrow five minutes before class, go visit family in a few months for Christmas, I’ll just go to church next week, I can repent on Sunday, etc…When God talks to us through His Word, He says that no one knows the day or hour (Matthew 24:36) when Christ will return. What He doesn’t say is that you’ll have time to get ready. You’ll either be ready when Christ comes again or you won’t. Are you willing to risk your eternal life for one little party tonight? (one that you won’t even remember 5 years from now) Are you willing to risk the salvation Christ bought for you with His blood for a night spent getting high? How do you spent your time? Time is the most precious gift one can have, don’t waste it.

Do you believe in God? When people ask you why you believe in God, what do you tell them? How do you reply? is it because your parents told you to? Or because the church you go to told you that you do? Why do you believe in God? It’s a simple question, but one that’s very difficult to answer for some people. I believe in God because I’ve PERSONALLY experienced Him in my life. I’ve seen His hand in almost every situation in my life to date.  It’s not one of those things that you experience now and then, but rather it’s something you experience every SINGLE day. Every morning you wake up, that’s a gift from God because He chose to bless YOU with yet another day. When someone asks you why you believe in God, take a moment and think about all the things that could’ve gone wrong during your day, but didn’t. The things that seemed impossible to do yet somehow were done. If you look close enough you’ll be able to see Gods hand in every situation. Just take a moment to yourself and think: Where would I be without God today? Would I still be alive? If something happened to your parents, would you still be going to church? Or do you just go because they go and it’s become a Sunday routine? Think about it.
