Dear Christian: Do You Pray?

There are so many of us out there that call ourselves christians, but do we behave like christians? Do we make time to talk to God? I don’t mean like think about things and hope God hears you. That is a one way conversation and one that sends a message that you aren’t expecting a reply. Recently I listened to this YouTube video by chaseGodtv called “Dear CHRISTIAN: Do You Pray?”. It explains why as christians we should be praying and how to pray. It’s up to us if we want to talk with God or not. If you do, all you have to do is get on your knees and talk from your heart. I promise you that God is right there hearing every word that is coming out of your mouth and even the words that don’t leave your mouth. prayer

Below are some of the key points I wrote down from the video.

  • Why should you pray?
    • Because it’s proof that you’re a christian. The christian life begins and continues with prayer.
    • We always hear that communication is the key. Then why would it be any different with God?
  • It’s proof that you know that you are insufficient of yourself
    • Many of us tend to pray for the major things in life like a job, we need to pray for all things
    • Sin wages against us daily, only by leaning on the power of God can we overcome it
    • If we don’t consistently fall on our face in prayer, then we shouldn’t be surprised when we consistently fall on our face in sin
    • People try to make excuses for it, but it its truly important to you then you’ll make time for it.
      • Life is short, you don’t have time to not pray

Some people just don’t know how to pray.

  • How do we pray?
    • Humbly and carefully
      • Many of us tend to ramble and think its cools, but it doesn’t mention that in The Bible. In The Bible when people pray, they either pray with fear or pure hatred, but nothing in between. ( Ecclesiastics 5:2)
      • We should consider our words to God very carefully
    • We don’t pray for style
      • (Matthew 6:5-7)
    • How much should we pray?
      • The Bible says that we should pray without ceasing
        • 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
        • We should be constantly coming to the Lord, day and night

When praying here’s a couple of things to keep in mind:

  • The Lord’s prayer (Matthew 6:9-15)
  • A.C.T.S.
    • A…
      • Exalting and praising God for who He is
    • Confession
      • Confess your sins to the Lord
    • Thanksgiving
      • Thank Him for all the things He’s done
    • Supplication
      • Request from the Lord, this isn’t meant to be a list
  • We don’t want to pray how we feel that God should be, we want to pray how He revealed Himself to be in the scriptures

Why should we pray?

  • Because He said so
  • God cares and loves us, but He wants us to raise our hands to Him, and show Him that we can’t do it without Him.
  • 1 Peter 3:15
    • We have access to God through prayer
  • PRAYER IS A BENEFIT TO US ALL

If you haven’t tried prayer or think that it’s not for you, give it a shot. Don’t shoot something down before you have tired it. But if you have tired it and feel like God isn’t hearing you, trust me He is. You just have to be patience and give Him time. He will reply when He knows that you’re ready to hear the answer.
